March 20, 2004 : Davidsfonds and Knack Spelling Contest

English is probably the toughest language on earth as far as spelling is concerned. But also Dutch has its tricky bits and pieces. That is whay there are two major spelling contests in Flanders. One of them is organised by the magazine Knack and the cultural association "Davidsfonds". Dirk participated for the third time. The event took place in the Flemish parliament building. Dirk ended up third in the category of "famous contestants". The two previous times he was second. This time he again had to give way to his friend - but meanwhile sadly deceased - youth author Karel Verleyen. The first placewas for the VRT (Flemish Radio and Television) language specialist Ruud Hendrickx. Score: Dirk 12 mistakes, Karel: 8, Ruud: 3.
